PORTLAND, MAINE — November 23, 2011 — In Northern New England, Oakhurst Dairy Egg Nog hitting store shelves is a signal of the arrival of the winter holiday season. It is also means the arrival of the company’s annual holiday fundraising tradition of donating five cents to the Salvation Army of Northern New England for every container of Oakhhurst Egg Nog and Light Egg Nog sold. The family-owned dairy company continues the tradition this year – its twelfth year – and will raise money throughout the 2011 holiday season and into January 2012. To date, Oakhurst Dairy has donated more than $200,000 to the Salvation Army of Northern New England through this annual effort.

"Partnering with Oakhurst Dairy, for now our 12th year has been a true blessing for The Salvation Army and those who come to us for assistance," according to Major James LaBossiere, Divisional Commander of the NNE Division, headquartered in Portland, ME. Major LaBossiere went on to say, "In these days of economic uncertainty, the on-going support of Oakhurst Dairy and the Bennett family represent a real commitment by them to be responsible corporate citizens and true community leaders."

On Wednesday, December 7th, Oakhurst employees along with several members of the Bennett family will staff the Salvation Army Kettle at the Maine Mall and ring the bell to greet holiday shoppers and raise awareness for its annual Egg Nog fundraising initiative. On that day, the Salvation Army Kettle will be located in the Food Court Area of the Maine Mall from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“Our company has a personal relationship with the Salvation Army that began more than 40 years ago with my mother,” said Bill Bennett, CEO and President of Oakhurst Dairy.  “The Salvation Army makes a difference in the lives of many families in the communities we serve and every year we look forward to making our Egg Nog campaign a success so that we can help support the important work this great organization does.”

Oakhurst Dairy Egg Nog products are on retail shelves now in supermarkets and convenience stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont. Last year, Oakhurst Dairy sold more than 420,000 cartons to reach its highest annual donation level to date since beginning the tradition.
