PORTLAND, Maine (January 19, 2009) — Bliss Bros. Dairy of Massachusetts announced today a new partnership with Oakhurst Dairy, based in Portland, Maine. The two family-owned dairies have teamed up for the purpose of distributing premium Oakhurst dairy products to Bliss Bros. customers throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Bliss Bros. Dairy, which has been making old-fashioned premium ice cream and distributing a full line of milk products since the 1920s, has changed focus to devote 100% of its manufacturing to ice cream.  Still dedicated to providing the freshest, highest-quality products associated with its family name, Bliss Bros. chose to partner with Oakhurst, Northern New England’s leading independent dairy, to supply its customers with premium dairy products as well as tea, juice and other beverages.

“Over the years, Bliss Bros. has built a reputation for providing fresh, high-quality products. We are confident that through our partnership with the Bennett family and Oakhurst Dairy, our customers will continue to be satisfied with their outstanding line of products,” said David Bliss, President of Bliss Bros. Dairy.  “Oakhurst Dairy was a natural fit for Bliss Bros., not only because of its products, but also because Oakhurst values complement those of our own company.  As stewards for healthy kids and a healthy environment, Oakhurst Dairy is taking steps in the right direction to reduce its carbon footprint and give back to the community, and we are thrilled to welcome them to our family.”

The partnership with Oakhurst allows Bliss Bros. to concentrate their efforts solely on ice cream manufacturing while still offering premium products to their customers. Through Bliss Bros. Dairy distribution, a full line of Oakhurst Dairy products, from milk and cream to cottage cheese and half & half, including flavored milks as well as other juice and drink products will be available in Massachusetts and Rhode Island starting January 19th.   The Oakhurst Dairy products will also be included on the menu at Bliss Bros. restaurant in Attleboro, MA.

“We are excited about our partnership with the Bliss Bros. Dairy.  David and the Bliss family have a great model set up and uniting our two companies is a positive step for us both,” said Stan Bennett, President of Oakhurst Dairy. “In times like these, it’s important for family businesses to stick together.  I believe Oakhurst and Bliss Bros. will have a long-standing relationship.”

Bliss Bros. Dairy has been making and distributing ice cream since the 1920s throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island and beyond when the Bliss family started the company.  Almost 90 years later, the Bliss Family still runs the business, which also includes the Bliss Bros. restaurant and ice cream shop.  Quality products, excellent service and commitment to community are the core values of and mainstay of the company’s heritage today.          Oakhurst is Northern New England’s largest, independent dairy company, with three generations of commitment to the health and wellbeing of the community and the environment. For 88 years, the Bennett family has stood behind every glass of Oakhurst milk. The company contributes 10% of annual profits to organizations that promote healthy kids and a healthy environment –– another good reason to choose the Natural Goodness of Maine.
